James McKean at the Bar, Kays Portraits, 1795/1835

"James McKean at the Bar Edinr." (at the High Court of Justiciary charged with Murder), dated 1795. 'This is understood to be a striking likeness of the prisoner, as he appeared at his trial-placed between two of the Old Town Guard-for the murder of Buchanan the Lanark carrier.' Copper etched print published in Kay's Edinburgh Portraits, 1837-8. Size 16 x 10.5 cms plus margins. Ref E402
