Cheltenham, Old Well Walk, Hulley / Merke aquatint, 1815.

Cheltenham, Old Well Walk, Hulley / Merke aquatint, 1815

"Well Walk" (Cheltenham) etched by H.Merke after a picture by Thomas Hulley, published in 1813. Aquatint with original hand colour augmented by recent hand colour (due to fading). Good condition. Size 26.5 x 19.5 cms. (The spot where the artist took this picture from would now be at the Ladies College end of Royal Well. Well Walk itself was built over by the college later in the 19th century and the River Chelt as seen in this view now runs underground. The Promenade now runs through the field immediately beyond the bridge to the left.) Ref E764
