"Gloucester Old Bank" drawn, lithographed, printed and published by George Rowe of Cheltenham, about 1839. Portrait of the proprietor James Wood with the bank in the background. One of the earliest private banks in England, founded in 1716. James (Jemmy) Wood, who took over in 1802, became well known, even being depicted on Toby Jugs but he was best known for his amazing meanness. Trimmed to image edges. Size 19 x 27 cms.
