Japan, Festival of Souls, 1730

"The Festival of the Souls. The Japanese in the evening march out of their cities to meet them and offer them Victuals" and "Their manner of Conducting ye Souls back out of the City and taking their leave of them" engraved by C.DuBosc after a picture by Bernard Picart, published in Ceremonies and Religious Customs of the Various Nations, about 1730. Copper engraved antique print. Centre fold as published, good condition with full plate mark and good margins. Size 22 x 34 cms to plate mark, plus margins. Ref H5366
