China, Barges of the Embassy, after Alexander, 1796

"Chinese Barges of the Embassy preparing to pass under a Bridge" etched and engraved by William Byrne after a picture by William Alexander, published in Staunton's An Authentic Account of an Embassy from the King of Great Britain to the Emperor of China, 1796. Large copper plate etching with recent hand colour. Two (flattened) vertical folds as published, also loss of about 5 cms trimmed from upper edge of print by publishers, Partial plate mark. Good condition apart from faults mentioned. Size 45 x 28 cms including title, plus margins. Ref H5892
