In the 16th Century the Cross was constantly attacked by Puritans until finally demolished by workmen, protected by soldiers 'to cleanse that great street of superstition'. Copper engraving. Trimmed to image edge and set into a scrapbook page, probably in Victorian times. Size 16.5 x 10.5 cms including title, plus new margins. Ref G801
