"The Aurora Borealis" wood engraving by Whimper, with full original hand colouring. Published by the SPCK (Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge) in 1846. At the time they were unsure of the cause of aurora, but did think it was connected to an electrical discharge of some sort. Some soiling and slight foxing. Size 23 x 31 cms including text, plus margins. Ref F5671
