Queen Emma on trial at Winchester (Anglo-Saxon history), 1779

"Queen Emma Widow of Canute the Great, proving her innocence, by the Ordeal or Fiery Trial, at Winchester in Hampshire" engraved by Walker after a picture by Wale, published in The Modern Universal British Traveller, about 1779. Copper engraved print, very slight age foxing, otherwise good condition with full plate mark. Size 16.5 x 25.5 cms to plate mark, plus margins. Ref I0477
