Solar system and comets in relation to other solar systems, about 1780. "Figure des Tourbillons Celestes ..." anonymous engraver, published in a French book about 1780. Copper engraved chart showing the solar system with two comets at centre, and how their orbits are distorted by the gravitational effects of other stars (and their planets.) Two folds as published, plate mark and good margins. Size 18 x 14.5 cms plus margins. Ref F2776

Godard's Montgolfier Balloon at London, 1864. "Ascent of M.Godard's Montgolfier Balloon from Cremorn Gardens" wood engraved print published in The Illustrated London News, July 1864. A large hot-air balloon, 117ft tall, but burdened with an 18ft stove for burning bundles of compressed straw. It did manage to lift off causing some damage to a 'theatrical Swiss Cottage', travelling not many miles to land in Greenwich. Size 15.5 x 21 cms including title, plus margins with descriptive text. Nadar's Giant Balloon at Paris, 1863. "Nadar's Giant Balloon at Paris" wood engraved print published in The Illustrated London News, October 1863.
