British India, Tallis/Rapkin map, 1853.

"British India" classic decorative Tallis/Rapkin map published in Tallis's The Illustrated Atlas ..., about 1853. Steel engraved map with original outline hand colour, the more desirable version without a centrefold and with good margins. The colour is coded to indicate the several Presidencies. The decorative vignettes include Lahore, Cootub Minar at Delhi, Beloochees and an Indian procession with elephants. Good condition. Size 25 x 34 cms including decorative border, plus margins.
