"Independant Tartary" (now Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmensitan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and part of Afghanistan.) Classic decorative Tallis/Rapkin map published in Tallis's The Illustrated Atlas ..., about 1853. Steel engraved map with original outline hand colour, the more desirable version without a centrefold. The decorative vignettes include The Bride Chase on horseback, The Tent and Tartars on a Journey. Close trimmed to upper and lower margins, upper right corner cut and very slight soiling. Size 33 x 26 cms including decorative border, plus margins. Ref H9076
