"Isthmus of Panama" classic decorative Tallis/Rapkin map published in Tallis's The Illustrated Atlas ..., about 1853. Steel engraved map with original outline hand colour, the more desirable version without a centrefold and with good margins. The decorative vignettes include the Fort at Chagre and Gold Seekers. Also marked in red are the proposed railway and canal communications between the oceans. Good condition. Size 33.5 x 25.5 cms including decorative border, plus margins. Ref G2012
